Cucapá Obscura

Cucapá Obscura Brown Ale

2 out of 5

I love Cucapá. If given a choice among Mexican craft brewers, I'll pick their beers over any other. But, I do not love this beer. Cucapá's Obscura is little different than the myriad brown lagers that litter the Mexican landscape. It is light, watery, and very boring. The only thing that makes this better than a Bohemia Obscura or a León is that Cucapá's version has a more noticeable roasted flavor. But that is it. I'm being harsh because I know Cucapá can do better. For what it is, this beer is very drinkable. However, I would prefer to drink just about anything else.

You can find this beer at La Belga, El Deposito, The Beer Box, La Nacional, and Graciela.

  1. Hello,
I'm enjoying your blog. It's good to hear that Mx. is starting to produce some interesting beers and I'm looking forward to returning this fall. Can you comment on the beer fest that will be happening in San Miguel de Allende? I have seen the poster but there doesn't seem to be much information about it. Thanks for writing

  2. I'm having a hard time finding more concrete information about the festival, but I did find a few leads that may be helpful to you. First, I found a different flyer that has a email address for the organizers: There is also a facebook page with virtually no info:

I found some comments on facebook that suggest you can buy tickets for the festival (no price stated) at plaza luciernaga, or at The Beer Company in San Miguel, Ancha de San Antonio #17, frente a kinder bambi. Probably the best bet if you are there, or are finding information for others, is go to The Beer Company and ask them about it. Or call them, #(415) 15 44 22 4.

Anyway, thanks for commenting and reading! Your blog looks really interesting, I've linked it up on the side. Do you know of any breweries or places to drink microbrews in the city of Guanajuato? I'm heading there soon and haven't been able to find any information on beer in that city.
